Project Outline: The exploratory research explores poverty in India through asset creation and ownership approach. It studies the status of existing assets at the household level in India and how they correspond to the respective poverty rates. The research is broadly qualitative in nature and focuses on analysing the role of physical assets in poverty alleviation and how they enhance people’s standard of living. The existing measurement of poverty is solely based on income/consumption approach. The thesis attempts to present a case to broaden the idea of poverty mitigation by considering household-level assets as an indicator of poverty alleviation.
